AI Engineer

Full-time / Part-time · Amsterdam

Are you an AI Engineer who wants to build real, working AI products that make a difference? Are you looking for a versatile role where you can develop and implement smart AI workflows that help us build a state-of-the-art marketplace?

About Us

Have you ever looked for a plumber, mediator or architect online? It can be quite a search. That’s exactly the challenge we set out to solve when founding Trustoo in 2019. Trustoo is an online platform for local businesses, where users can easily find the best providers. Think of it as the Booking.com or Tripadvisor for local services.

Today, Trustoo provides over 300.000 businesses across 85+ industries with a platform to increase their visibility to potential customers. Our team of 85+ enthusiastic and driven colleagues is scaling up the Trustoo platform together. And now, we’re expanding our AI capabilities and need your help.

What makes your role crucial for Trustoo?

Wouter (Product lead Data & AI):

“We see huge potential to use AI for automating and personalizing processes like lead scoring, review generation, upsell, and more. But we’re not here for theoretical pilots. We want real results. That’s why we’re looking for a hands-on builder who can quickly prototype and ship useful tools. You’ll work closely with me and our developers to make AI a natural part of our product and operations.”

The Position

As an AI Engineer, you’ll work across departments to identify opportunities, build solutions, and get them live. From building an orchestrator framework to the sub-agents that are doing the job: you’ll be building smart tools that actually get used by 1000s of users.

We’re growing fast and learning every day. Most of what we build is done in-house, which gives us the speed and flexibility to move quickly. At the same time, we stay pragmatic. If an external solution works better or gets us there faster, we’ll use it. This role helps guide those decisions. You’ll work closely with product and development to find the best mix between custom-built and off-the-shelf solutions.

In short, a broad and impactful AI role. In which you:

  • Build and test AI agents and workflows

  • Work closely with our Product lead AI to identify and prioritize use cases

  • Connect your solutions with existing data and infrastructure in collaboration with our developers

  • Run experiments, analyze results, and iterate quickly to improve performance

  • Stay sharp on the latest AI developments and propose smart tools to try

What does your day look like?

Start your day with a short check-in, either with the product and tech team or with Wouter. What needs to be built or tested today? Is the orchestrator architecture ready? What are the results for last week's experiments? Is the new agent safe and GDPR compliant?

You plan your work, with room to go deep when building or tweaking prototypes. Some days are focused on coding, others are more collaborative. You might brainstorm new use cases, check data quality, or refine prompts. With our open culture and short lines, we move fast. No long meetings or heavy processes. Just impact. We close the week together with the team. Shipped something cool? Then it’s time for drinks or a game of ping-pong.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with an orchestrator with subagents set-up

  • Has 1 to 4 years of experience working on AI or LLM-based solutions, preferably in a scale-up environment

  • Can build with Python

  • Comfortable working with JavaScript and PHP codebases to integrate AI capabilities into existing web applications

  • Knows how to go from an idea to a working prototype that people use

  • Enjoys working cross-functionally and translating business needs into smart tooling

  • Is pragmatic, entrepreneurial, and focused on impact

What we offer

  • A product and service you’ll be proud to represent

  • A fantastic vibe with an ambitious and close-knit international team

  • A direct seat at the table. You’ll help shape our AI capability from the ground up

  • A competitive salary based on experience

  • Hybrid working flexibility + a laptop to make it easy

  • Two weeks per year to work remotely from abroad

  • €1,000 training budget to use as you wish

  • Travel reimbursement to and from our Amsterdam office

  • 25 vacation days & Pension plan

  • Guaranteed improvement in your ping-pong skills

  • Fun monthly team activities, such as drinks, sports, cooking workshops, or boat trips

  • An annual company incentive trip abroad if we reach our targets
